Afflicted:  Daughters of Salem

In 1691 Puritan New England, fear and supersition are rampant.  Singing, dancing, and amusement of any kind are forbidden.  Five girls coming of age in Salem Village, desperate for release of their thoughts and eelings, find an ally in Tituba, a slave who longs for freedom.  This play tells the story of the Salem girls and the evens that led up to the infamous Salem Witch Trials.

Wit

Vivian Bearing, Ph.D, is a renowned professor of the Holy Sonnets of John Donne who has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer.  Though she has always been tough and rational in her studies and her life, as she journies through an experimental chemotherapy program at a major teaching hospital, she comes to reasses her life and her work with depth and with humor.

DUE TO THE CONTENT OF THESE SHOWS,

THEY ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS UNDER 13 YEARS OLD.

About the Contest Play One-Acts

Each year, both WWTC and MTC enter the Indiana Thespians Regional Play Competion, where the top two schools advance to the State level competition.  The topics of the shows that compete lean toward heavier, social-issue type topics.  WWTC has competed for the past five years against high schools, and never come in last!  MTC has advanced shows three of the six times they have competed, winning the Regional Competition in 2021!

These productions showcase the range of material that our students are able to be guided through, and are a marked difference from the lighter content of our other productions.  We encourage you to check out these pieces and support our students as they prepare for competition!
